Changing Company Cultures – Avoiding Career Breaks

funded by BMFSFJ, 2010 – 2012

Attracting more women into management positions is a major concern for
politics and the economy. Research shows that heterogeneous teams are
more creative and innovative than their homogeneous counterparts and
thus achieve better economic success. Against the backdrop of
demographic change, it is essential to better harness the high
qualification and the competences of women also in the upper and top
management levels.

Many companies have already recognized this necessity. Nevertheless, the
potential of attracting women into management positions is still rarely
unlocked. This was the starting point of the project “Changing Company
Cultures - Avoiding Career Breaks” which Fraunhofer CeRRI conduced
together with nine partner companies, funded by the Federal Ministry of
Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ). The aim of
the project was to explore the company culture reasons for the career
breaks of female high-potentials within a scientific study. Based on
this, a discussion process with the partner companies was initiated to
further develop and enhance existing measures and strategies. In October
2012, the final symposium of the project took place in Berlin.
